History

Established in 1993, the Department of Archaeology at the University Mugla Sıtkı Koçman, Degree in 2005-2006, Master's began to accept students in 1996. Doctoral program began to accept students in 2012.

Profile of the Programme

The students will sufficiently define, comment on and date the archaeological material. They will gain a multifaceted perspective on correlating the past and the future. They will gain a life-long learning habit using their knowledge and ability in Archaeology

Program Outcomes

1- The students will sufficiently define, comment on and date the archaeological material. They will gain a multifaceted perspective on correlating the past and the future.
2- They will gain a life-long learning habit using their knowledge and ability in Archaeology
3- They will have ability on commenting on the material of ancient architecture, pottery and sculpture, which form the basis of the modern archaeology education.
4- They can do documentation using classical methods and advanced technology. They can make it utilizable for the other fields.
5- They can analysis the archaeological datas and convert this datas to scientific research.
6- They will have some abilities to relate archaeologicaldatas with archaeometry and similar sciences
7- They will have ethics and creativeness to spread on this job to community
8- They can route the archaeological datas to social sciences
9- They will have informations deeply about carian art, architecture and culture
10- The students will have specialism about ancient colonization and trade. They can also comment the relations between western Anatolia and other regions in Early Iron age
11- The students will have informations deeply about the relations between caria and adjacent regions as Ionia.
12- They will have specialism about Cultural Resource Management, History of Archaeology, Archaeology and the politics
13- They will have information deeply about Early Christanism and Byzantine datas from Southwestern Anatolia. They will also comment art and architecture with this datas

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Instructor or Specialist in universities / officer. Also slightly various public institutions (officer in Ministry of Culture and Tourism, officer in General Directorate For cultural heritage and museums, Public or Special museums, DÖSİM etc.)., Private institutions, industrial organizations are also employment opportunities as an archaeologist.

Access to Further Studies

After graduation students can proceed their education in ph.d level in their or related fields. If they choose an field of study different from their graduate education, students can start ph.d education after being successful in Academic Preparation Program within the framework of the relevant regulations. Ph.d admissions are determined by the Institute of Social Sciences of Mugla Sıtkı Koçman University in accordance with the regulations.
