Institute of Social Sciences Master of Arts Programme in Sports Management

Qualification Awarded

The Master's Degree in Sports Management Sciences is awarded to graduates who have successfully completed the programme requirements.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students are admitted to the master's program by making a written exam. The number of students to be admitted to graduate programs and the qualifications to be sought in candidate students are announced before the beginning of each semester. In this announcement, the application conditions and the deadline, the place and date of the interview of the candidates are stated. Applicants must have an undergraduate graduation GPA of 2.50 and ALES score of at least 55. They must have at least 55 standard points in the relevant score type from ALES or an equivalent score of 55 ALES points from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).

Qualification Requirements

In order to successfully complete the program, it is necessary to pass all the courses that are required to be taken in the program, to achieve a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00 and to be successful in the thesis exam.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions.

History

Muğla University Faculty of Sports Sciences, Department of Sports Management started its education life within the body of Muğla University School of Physical Education and Sports in the 2003-2004 academic year. Currently, the department continues its education and training activities in the normal education of the undergraduate education and in the master's programs in the Sports Management Department.

Profile of the Programme

The Sports Management Department program applies an intensive curriculum in the field of sports management sciences. A training program is carried out to enable students to play an active role in all kinds of organizations within the sports industry and to train them as leaders. Courses in education programs; It takes place under the name of compulsory, elective, seminar, thesis, term project, specialization field course.

Program Outcomes

1- Being able to focus on strategic approach for managing sport organizations
2- Being able to use wide and integrated knowledge of enterprises` functions effectively,
3- Being able to have social responsibility for solving problematic issues on private and public sector
4- Being able to comprehend ethical and legal components of Sport Industry,
5- Being able to have skills of problem solving and critical thinking,
6- Being able to have communication skills for leading sport organizations and groups,
7- Being able to have skills of formulating and implementing strategy
8- To be able to understand the importance of global environment on the implementations of sport organizations
9- To be able to develop skills for planning, conducting and evaluating researches.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

% 40 percent of the midterm grade and % 60 percent of the final exam grade add up to the overall passing grade. Students are required to take a mid-term examination and/or complete other assigned projects/homework during the semester and, additionally, are required to take a final examination and/or complete a final project for course evaluation.The assessment for each course is described in detail in “Individual Course Description”. The midterm examinations are compacted and given in the 8th week of the semester. In addition to midterm examinations and other work, students are required to take a final examination. Final examinations are held at the appropriate place and hour as decided. Forty percent of the midterm grade and sixty percent of the final exam grade add up to the overall passing grade. Students must attend classes, practices and examinations.

Graduation Requirements

To obtain a Master Degree on Public Administration, students must pass succesfully all the compulsory and elective courses in the programme (equivalent to a total of 90 ECTS) and must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Our graduates can work in the central and provincial organizations of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, local governments, amateur and professional sports clubs, sports federations, sports-related institutions and organizations in the private sector, and universities.

Access to Further Studies

The graduates holding Master Degree are eligible to apply to Doctorate Degree programmes provided that a valid point of ALES examination and a sufficient level of foreign language knowledge.
