Qualification Awarded

Ph.D. in Chemistry

Specific Admission Requirements

Applicants applying to undergraduate programs with a bachelor's degree must have a grade of at least 3.00 out of 4 full grades and a minimum grade of 80 on a full marks or an equivalent graduation grade in a department of science approved by EABDB and EYK. At least 80 standard points from ALES, or at least equivalent from one of the exams accepted by the Interuniversity, at least 55 points from YDS or from YÖKDİL, and they must have at least an equivalent score in international foreign language exams. Candidates applying with a master's degree to PhD programs have a master's degree in a science approved by EABDK and approved by the EYK; and at least 55 standard points from ALES, or one of the exams accepted by the Interuniversary Board. They must have at least 55 points from YDS or YÖKDİL, and have obtained at least equivalent scores from national and international foreign language examinations which are accepted as validity by the Interuniversity Board. Success score; 50% of the ALES score is calculated by adding 20% ??of the undergraduate / graduate grade point average and 30% of the written exam grade. The conversion table of YÖK is used to determine the equivalents of GNOs in the system. The achievement score is determined by the Senate not to be less than 65 for doctoral candidates.

Qualification Requirements

Minimum Graduation ECTS (Master) must be 120. Minimum Graduation ECTS (PhD) must be 240. and must defence a thesis in front of a selected jury

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students are admitted to the quota determined at the beginning of the academic year according to their academic success. The student has to meet the requirements of admission and success, and must have achieved all the courses in the program in which he / she came. Application for horizontal transfers is made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. The admission and orientation of the student is determined by EYK with EABDB / EASDB proposal.

History

Undergraduate and graduate education began in 1997-1998. PhD education began in 2007-2008.

Profile of the Programme

The objective is to educate specialists who can do research in any specific issues related to chemistry resources, plan an experimental study in the laboratory, evaluate and present a report of implement experimental results and work in scientific research and development organization.

Program Outcomes

1- Having advanced knowledge in the field of specialization of original thought and / or level of expertise in research and deepen access to innovative definitions.
2- Perform an original study independently to design a new idea or an existing test by adding innovation to method.
3- Analysis, synthesis and evaluation of new and complex ideas using expert knowledge and access to original results
4- Blending the national and international levels to implement what they have learned up to date with the requirements and propose solutions to problems
5- understand the importance of interdisciplinary interaction and multi-disciplinary study. in associated fields
6- Gain upper skill level of using research methods in the related studies.
7- Having scientific and ethical values as an individual and applying.
8- To follow the information and to communicate other colleagues using at least European Language Portfolio C1 level

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

Students are required to take a mid-term examination and/or complete other assigned projects/homework during the semester and, additionally, are required to take a final examination and/or complete a final project for course evaluation. The final grade is based on the mid-term examination grade, the final examination grade and/or evaluation of final project, with the contributions of 40% and 60%, respectively. To pass any course, a Master's student must receive at least 70 out of 100. Students must repeat courses they have failed or may substitute courses the Department accepts as equivalent. The assessment for each course is described in detail in “Individual Course Description”.

Graduation Requirements

Ph.D. program, not less than 21 credits for students admitted with a master's degree with thesis and not less than 60 ECTS for one academic year, minimum seven courses, seminar, proficiency exam, thesis proposal and thesis work ECTS credits

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Students who graduated with the title of expert chemist can work as quality control specialists and researchers in the area of pharmaceutical, food, mining, textile, paint, etc. sectors. Apart from this mission work they can work as a responsible director in various sectors and also can pursue academic careers in universities. Upon a successful completion of the programme, student may continue with doctoral study in the same or similar scientific areas, which may accept students from the science of Chemistry.

Access to Further Studies

Candidates who successfully completed MSc can enter the PhD programs with the condition of minimum required scores from the ALES and from the English language (UDS, TOEFL, IELTS, KPDS, etc.) exams.
