Qualification Awarded

Undergraduate. Students having graduated from Modern Turkish Dialects and Literatures acquire the title of “Turkolog”. These students have the opportunity of employment in TRT and other media institutions, in private companies and government entities and in tourism sector besides the chance of working as teachers of Turkish by the help of their expertise in the field and Russian language knowledge. Students may also have opportunities of employment in the forementioned companies and institutions in Middle Asian countries with help of the training provided in our department.

Qualification Requirements

Students have to achieve all of the compulsory and elective lessons required for the program (equal to 240 ECTS in total) and they have to obtain a minimum 2.0 general degree average out of 4.00 in order to have a an undergraduate degree in the field.

Recognition of Prior Learning

The previous academic training of the students who have previously had an academic training in another university is recognized in the frame of the “Legislation of Council of Higher Education (YÖK) related to the Transition between the Programs from Associate Degree to Undergraduate Degree, Double Major Programs, Lateral Branch Programs and Fundamentals of Credit Transfer between Institutions” and the “Legislation of Mugla Sitki Kocman University about the Associate Degree and Undergraduate Degree Academic Training”. Apart from Formal Education Programs, Informal Education and Non-formal Education Programs which are based on certification and experience are not currently recognized. However, an Exemption Exam is organized for Foreign Language Lessons (English, German, French …etc.) in each of the academic programs at the beginning of the term. Students who think that they are sufficient enough for these lessons have the right of taking this exam. Students who are successful in this exam are kept exempt from the related lessons.

Profile of the Programme

The mission of our Department is to contribute to the development, conservation and awareness about the Turkish language, literature and culture by the help of academic and scientific activities.

Program Outcomes

1-	Analyzes methodologically the main concepts, ideas and datum related to language and literature discipline.

2-	Knows the quality and productivity principles in academic life and uses these in his academic activities.

3-	Can help the cultural, social and artistic activities related to Turkish Dialects and Literatures

4-	Learns the grammatical rules of the Turkic lenguages and finds the resources related to his field.

5-	Learns the optional Russian/Persian languages and uses the resources related to his field.

6-	Makes a comparative analysis of the Literatures Turkish World .

7-	Encourages the learning of people and groups under his responsibility.

8-	Is able to communicate orally and in written forms using a dialect.

9-	Is able to read the Turkic texts in Cyrillic and Arabic letters and Turkic texts belonging to Turkic lenguages. Is able to synthesize the literal texts in Turkish dialects.

10-	Acquires a speaking, reading, comprehending and writing ability of the texts in Turkic lenguages. Therefore he can work in radio, TV, magazine and newspaper companies.

11-	Obtains the main knowledge and skills about academic study and academic research on Turkic lenguages and Literatures.

12-	Is able to work as a teacher in the field of Turkish languages, literatures, dialects and folk art at state and private schools of National Education Ministry.

Access to Further Studies

Candidates having successfully completed the undergraduate training are allowed to have training in the post-graduate programs in condition that they have an acceptable degree from the ALES and that they speak a foreign language.

Mode of Study

The Department of Modern Turkish Dialects and Literatures was founded in 1993 and the study period is 4 years. There are three major fields of study: Field of South-West (Azeri-Turkmen) Turkish Dialects and Literatures, Field of North-West (Kazakh-Kirgiz/Tatar-Baskurt) Turkish Dialects and Literatures, Field of South-East (Ozbek-Uygur) Turkish Dialects and Literatures. However the greduate degree is obtained upon completing succesfully compulsary and elective causer from all three branches.
