History

Wood Products Industrial Engineering was begin to education in 2011-2012 academic year under Faculty of Technology .

Profile of the Programme

The Department of Woodworking Industrial Engineering started its education and training activities by accepting its first undergraduate students in the 2011-2012 academic year and is located within the Faculty of Technology. Its primary purpose is; To train competent engineers with high practical skills for the field of woodworking, one of the important sectors of Turkey and the world. Our graduates can be employed as "Woodworking Industrial Engineers" in all branches of industry where wood or wood-based materials are processed, especially furniture. There are many job opportunities for Woodworking Industrial Engineers in both the public and private sectors. In addition, Woodworking Industrial Engineers have professional chamber and signature authority within the scope of the "Law on Forest Engineering, Forest Industrial Engineering and Woodworking Industrial Engineering" No. 5531, published in the Official Gazette on July 8, 2006. Our graduates, who can play a role in the fields of design, ergonomics, decoration, wood protection, surface treatments, furniture strength, production planning, quality control, cost analysis, efficiency and marketing in all sectors where wood materials are used, are able to take part in various theoretical and applied courses in these fields during their undergraduate education. They complete two summer internships lasting 20 working days each. Additionally, education in our department is implemented in the 7+1 system. Accordingly, our students spend the first seven semesters of their 4-year (8 semesters) education process at school, and the last semester at a business full-time within the scope of "workplace training". The "workplace training" study, which is carried out through agreements established between our department and many businesses, is followed by our relevant academic staff and care is taken to continue the process in the most effective way. In the Department of Woodworking Industrial Engineering, located in the Kötekli Campus (main campus) of our university in the Menteşe district of Muğla, courses are carried out in classrooms, computer laboratories, woodworking workshops and scientific research laboratories, depending on their content. There are 13 permanent faculty members working in our department, including 7 Professor Doctors, 2 Associate Professor Doctors, 2 Doctor Lecturers and 2 Research Assistant Doctors. In addition, some faculty members from different units of our university also support our education and training activities. In addition to the undergraduate program offered in the Department of Woodworking Industrial Engineering, Thesis Master's and Doctoral programs are carried out in the Woodworking Industrial Engineering Department of the Institute of Science and Technology. The research carried out in these programs makes significant contributions to the scientific repertoire of the woodworking field. In addition, research and development (R&D) studies are carried out with Turkey's leading woodworking companies within the scope of University-Industry Cooperation.
