Fethiye Ali Sıtkı Mefharet Koçman Vocational School Programme of Landscaping and Ornamental Plants

Qualification Awarded

Students who take program courses (a total of 120 ECTS) and who successfully complete at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.00 are eligible for the vocational degree in landscape and ornomental plants.

Specific Admission Requirements

General terms and conditions of university entrance are required for native and foreign students determined by national higher education affiliation.

Qualification Requirements

In order to graduate from the programme, the students should complete 120 ECTS course work, including required and elective, succesfuly and should have a 2.00 Grand Point Average (GPA) minimum out of 4.00.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Affiliation. Exams of exemption are organised at the start of each year at the University for the courses of English Language, Computer Skills, Turkish Language and Turkish History. The students who have completed the proficiencies for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum.

History

Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Landscape and Ornamental Plants Programme was established in June 9 2001 and began to intake student in 2001-2002 academic education year with the enrollment of 50 students. Programme education was evaluated in 2011 by adapting to national and so the international education system and continue to education with the enrollment of 40 national student and 5 international special quato capacity. The school is located in Fethiye city with 1200 m2 base constructional area, 4000 m2 garden and 120 m2 ornamental plant greenhouse land. Fethiye is situated along the coast where the Mediterranean Sea and Aegean Sea meet, in southwest Turkey. It has a worldwide reputation for The Blue Lagoon Sea, Babadag Paragliding Mountain, Butterfly Valley, Kaya Village and the ancient cities. Fethiye has a Mediterranean climate consisting of very hot, long and dry summers with an average of 34°C; winters are cool and rainy with an average of 18.5°C. It has high variety of practice area that are governmental or non governmental. For important practice of lessons location of the school is close to Antalya and İzmir cities where they are best centers for landscape and ornomental plant applications. Programme education is applied by 1 assoc. Prof, 1 asst. Prof and 3 lecturer. They are well qualified personels in their department. Graduated students are accepted by govermental offices as landscape technicer.

Profile of the Programme

To carry out 5. Level occupational and academic carier in vocational programme.

Program Outcomes

1- To have scientific awareness for ornamental plant and constructional material that is occupationally used, to have enough qualification in the use of computer aided designd and 3D models, technical arts.
2- To know the position and the importance of ornamental plans and practice
3- To have basic knowledge about national and international legislations applied to natural and cultural landscapes, and ornamental plants area, to know legislation authorities and stakeholders, to distinguish whom to apply in official correspondences and to use legislations correctly in correspondences. To have ability to follow changes in legislations and to know how to apply it in different conditions.
4- To know economy, robustness and sustainability which are the basics of landscape and ornamental plants, to follow improvements in the area and to contribute them to implement. To research and to interpret economical and socio-economical indicators in sector.
5- To use computer and internet basically, and to follow professional publications, to use the terminology of the occupation
6- To evaluate sectoral indicators and take ability for practice
7- To read landscape Project and to know all application indicators and to skill about grass application.
8- To qualfied by all knowladge for any support in landscape architecture practice, ornamental plant cultivation and disinsectitation
9- To know and implement the organization, production planning, human resources management and control strategies. To analyze the problems on management and to decide rapidly and correctly.
10- To know project cycle management and logical frame approach. To analyze actual situation of the area in respect of landscape management and pretection.
11- To have knowledge on landscape and ornamental plant production techniques and technology. To have basic knowledge on maps and computer aided designs.
12- To connect relation with other stakeholders in the sector
13- To have basic knowledge theoretically about occupation and converst them to practice.
14- To know humanity and ethos, to have awareness of professional ethics. To know and defend the rights of employers, and to take initiative, to have self confidence.
15- To have basic ability on nature conservation and enviroment.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

Evaluation of examinations consider in accordance with the University Senate Legislation with 29 August 2012,number 465/11.

Graduation Requirements

Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 120 ECTS).

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduated students are eligible for govermental and nongovernmental companies in landscape deparment and ornamental plants.

Access to Further Studies

The graduates holding Associated Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Bachelor’s Degree in accordance with National Higher Education Affiliation.
