Bachelor of Arts
Specific Admission Requirements
In our country, it is required to pass YKS to get into university. This exam is only condition to get into bachelor programs for Turkish Republic citizens. Certain number of foreign students who pass a central exam called YÖS (Foreing Student Exam) also get acceptance.
Required documents for registration:
1- Highschool or its equivalents diploma
2- Student election and placement exam result.
Qualification Requirements
To receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and International Relations, a student must succesfully complete all of the required and elective courses in the program list (equivalent to 240 ECTS credits), and a minimum 2.00 grade point average must be achieved out of 4.00.
Recognition of Prior Learning
The students who are registered to the Department of Political Science and International Relations of Muğla University for the first time, in case of application in the first week of academic year, the credits and final grades received in previous higher education department/program are transferred to the related department and program by board decision. The number of terms equaled to these courses are calculated by considering the total credits of the courses affirmed and the term credits of the department that the student is registered. This period is reduced from education period limit defined in the 44th article of law and the term, which is going to be acclimated, is defined by board decision.
History
The Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences was founded by the Academy of Ankara Economics and Administrative Sciences in 1975 under the name Muğla School of Business Administration which was connected to Dokuz Eylül University in 1982. In 1992 it was transformed in to the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, after the founding of Muğla University. The Department of Political Science and International Relations was founded in 1992 under the name International Relations, but will be admitting students for the first time in the 2012-2013 academic year. The Department of Political Science and International Relations students will be required to pass a one-year English Prepatory class, and will have to have at least %30 of their total credits in English.
Profile of the Programme
In the department of Political Science and International Relations, framework of the education and training program gives the basic concepts of political science and international relations and allows to research economic and social affairs related to working life. Turkey, surrounded by Caucasian in the East, The Balkans in the west, Middle East in the south, in the mean time the only country which is member of NATO, European Council, OECD and Organization of the Islamic Conference, is an economic and cultural bridge which is intersection point among east, west, north and south. Moreover, Turkey has never been a dependency and establish its political system not imposing its imperial power like most of the world but voluntarily and mobilising its own facilities. Since the Republic was established, Turkey has never joined an international war including World War II and has been successful to protect both internal and external political balance even though there has been some problems occasionally. However, this at the same time, makes it extremely important that Turkey has never experienced neither internal nor external war and learned by analyzing other countries' experiences and their results. In a country like Turkey it is important to have staff who are well educated about politic, political institutions and basic principles, process, theoritic basis, historical development of international relations. In this context department of Political Science and International Relations aims to educate needed human resource ideally for both domestic and foreing policy and national and international private or non gorvernmental organizations. This programme has wide lessons range. It also aims to educate person who can speak at least one foreign language fluently, has the general culture and representation talent, successful at human relations, translate and write his/her thoughts effectively by giving academic and diplomatic writing courses in addition to basic courses.

To have the ability to interpret the relationships between factors such as structures, actors, institutions and culture in local, regional and international politics from an analytical and critical perspective and to produce solutions to problems. |

Acquiring the competencies required for employment in public, private sector, national and international organizations/NGOs; having work ethics and responsibility. |

To be able to make career planning according to personal characteristics, abilities and tendencies and to determine the specialized knowledge and skills to be acquired within this framework and to gain the responsibility and awareness of acquiring them. |

To have the competence to convey his/her thoughts, research results, comments and observations and suggestions for solutions to problems on issues related to local, regional and international politics in written and oral form to experts and non-experts by supporting them with research data and academic arguments. |

To be able to follow the information about Political Science and International Relations by using at least one foreign language and to be able to communicate with colleagues by using this language at least at the European Language Portfolio B2 General level. |

To acquire the ability to use basic computer programs and the internet, and to use this equipment in the field of information production and development. |

To have social sensitivity; to have sensitivity about human rights, universal values and heritage, environmental protection and to reflect this to professional activities and decisions. |
Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading
Exams consist of mid-terms, final exams, excuse exams, repeat exams, exemption exams and one course exam.
Mid-terms: There are mid-term exams for the courses that exist in every term. 40% of a mid-term exam is considered.
Final exams: There are final exams to test academic success at the end of the term. 60% of a final exam is considered.
Excuse exams: If a student has a valid excuse for the mid-term or final exams, related board allow for excuse exams. For the excuse exams, student must submit a petition, which explains the excuse, in 3 days to deanship/ management. Moreover, the excuse should be approved by related board.
Repeat exams: Students may take repeat exams for the courses, which are graded as FD or FF that they fail and which are graded as DD or DC that they pass, at the end of term. The point of a repeat exam substitutes for the final point of that course. The percentages of mid-term and repeat exams are assessed in the same way as final exams. For the repeat exams, final point is considered regardless of what was graded before.
Exemption exams: Exemption exams are set for the courses defined by the senate on the specified dates in academic calender.
One course exams: They are for the students who failed in one course and will graduate in case of succeeding in that course. Moreover, the students may take one course exam to increase their own average score, although they succeed all of the courses in the program, for the reason that they cannot graduate due to grade point average is less than 2,00. To take one course exam for graduation, a petition should be given to the head of department. One can take this exam only once.
Graduation Requirements
Students who successfully complete all the courses (corresponding to a total of 240 ECTS) in the program and who achieve a 2.0 Grade Point Avarage our of 4.00 will be granted a Bachelor diploma in the field of Political Science and International Relations.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Students who will graduate from Department of Political Science and International Relations, in return of their education, will be able to find a job whether in governmental or private institutions. They can take in charge not only in Foreing Ministery but also other international units in other ministries. On the other hand since political science is a bacis discipline which provides possibility to tend other disciplines like economy, finance, business, communication and media, law and public administration, it is an ideal base for students who generally interested in political and social issues but have not made a decision for their profession. Students who get this basic education, can make decision which profession they will tend by taking the lessons from whether for this department or other department. Having the possibility of department/ faculty/ university elective lessons offers to students needen education for specializing for these areas and makes easier to be informed about sectors which they will apply for a job. Moreover, having English lessons contribute their verbal and written skills and increase their chance to be employed from private sector (press, finance companies, national/international companies, non-governmental organizations).
Access to Further Studies
The graduates holding Bachelor's Degree are eligible to apply Master's Degree.
