Specific Admission Requirements

To have a BA diploma from English Language Teaching Department or an eqivalent diploma ( English Language and Literature, Linguistics, Translation-Interprtation) and to be successful in the exam hold by the department.

Qualification Requirements

Students have to take 30 ECTS each semester. Throughout their education in the program, they have to take 90 ECTS (at least eight courses) in total, and a seminar course. They have to begin thesis studies in the third semester.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students can be exempt from some courses that are previously taken from a similar program andprovided that they were successfully completed .

History

English Language Teaching Masters program was affiliated to Muğla Universty, Institute of Social Sciences from 2003-2004 to 2010-2011 academic year. From that time on, the program has been affiliated to Muğla University, Institute of Educational Sciences.

Profile of the Programme

This program helps students develop their professional skills as well as research skills. Throuhout the education in the program, contemporary theories, methods, and applications in the English Language Teaching profession are dealt with.

Program Outcomes

1- Developing and enhancing the theoretical and practical graduate degree knowledge at English Language Teaching field
2- Internalizing the values of contemporary knowledge society .
3- Mastering the skills of following, interpreting and appliying the scientific research and innovations related with the field.
4- Doing basic and applied original scientific research at applied linguistics and methodology field.
5- Examining the special problems by using qualitative and quantitative scientific research methods.
6- Developing solutions by planning independently, solving, appling by evaluating the results.
7- Evaluating the knowledge obtained theoretically and practically at academic education process with cause-effect relations.
8- Doing original, theoretical and applied scientific research about teaching English Language.
9- Following international literature and contributing to the literature with scientific research.
10- Having communication skills at international level, expressing studies orally and in written.
11- Using the chances for contuning professional life in academic atmosphere.
12- Behaving in accordiance with democracy, human rights, social, scientific and professional ethical values in learning context and society.
13- Mastering English at C1 level of common European Framework at four skills of listening-comprehension, reading–comprehension, writing and speaking.
14- Having the competency of taking role in projects at national and international projects.
15- Doing discourse analysis towards different research problems about teacher-student and/or student-student communication in language classes.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

Students are assessed through Mid-term and final exams, plus they have to make presentations on special topics throughout the courses, and carry out thesis studies.
