Qualification Awarded
Students who complete the Tourist Guidance program successfully gain associate degree.
Specific Admission Requirements
It is imperative that the students who will be admitted to the program are required to enter the country-wide examination regarding student admission in higher education. This exam is held once a year and organized by ÖSYM (Measuring, Selection and Placement Center). In this exam, student must earn enough points to be placed in the program from the relevant point type.
Qualification Requirements
Students are entitled for graduation upon taking a total of 120 ECTS over four semesters, with 30 ECTS each semester and having a grade-point average of at least 2.00 over 4.00-point system.
Recognition of Prior Learning
The students who enrolled in higher education institutions have the right to demand the recognition of their previously completed studies in different universities. In order for newly enrolled students to have their previous studies recognized, they are required to apply to the relevant department with the transcript and course content from previous studies during the first week of registration year.
History
Our school, having been founded by the decision of Higher Education Council, dated 25.01.1994, started education with 38 students in Tourism and Hotel Management and Greenhouse Cultivation programs in an apartment building by having the great supports of the institutions and the philanthropists in Ortaca county, in 1994-1995 academic year. In 1999, Tourism and Travel Services daytime education program began to accept students. In the year 2000, same program’s evening education started to accept students. Since the 2012-2013 academic year, Tourist Guidance daytime education program started to accept students.
Profile of the Programme
Tourist Guidance Program of Ortaca Vocational School, that is established in a location that is neighboring important tourism centers such as Fethiye, Marmaris, Sarıgerme, and Dalyan, aims to train tourist guides that has professional knowledge and skills required by tourism sector. Program students take educations in social fields such as communication, ethics, marketing besides the courses that will increase their professional knowledge and skills. Students, that take theoretical education in general terms in the extent of curriculum, improve their applied knowledge and skills by participating in application trips arranged by the Ministry and trade chambers. In addition, our instructors provide guidance in the stepping of our students in the sector. Thanks to our school’s close relationships with the sector representatives, it is ensured that our students are introduced to the sector representatives.

Students follow the knowledge in the field by using at least one foreign language at the level of European Language Portfolio B1 and to communicate with the colleagues. |

Students use information and communication technologies together with computer software at Advanced Level of European Computer Driving Licence. |

Students know and apply legal regulations and professional standards related to tourist guidance and the field of tourism. |

Students gain detailed knowledge about geography of world and Turkey. |

Students acquire knowledge about basic concepts, theories, principles, and facts in the fields of business, economics, marketing, and human resources. |

Students gain detailed knowledge about the culture, history, religion and art of the civilizations that lived in Turkey, interpret and establish connections between them. |

Students gain knowledge about the concept of cultural heritage. They learn Turkey’s cultural values, problems and relates them to the current events. |
Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading
Students have to participate in activities that are available in measurements and evaluation systems, such as applications, projects, workshops, and homework. Attendance is compulsory to minimum 70% of theoretical courses and 80% of the applied courses and laboratory studies. Students who do not fulfill the attendance obligation, are not entitled to take the final exams. In theoretical courses, students have to repeat the relevant course until they fulfill the attendance obligation. Exams are generally held in written form. However, lecturer may decide to hold an oral exam, as well. The exams of a course are held by the lecturer who gives that course. For each course two exams are scheduled, at least one mid-term and one final exam. Each exam’s contribution levels to the success grade are defined by the lecturer who gives that course.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates of tourist guidance program are entitled to have tourist guidance certificate as local or country-wide tourist guides, depending on the scope of the trip, after participating in the application trips organized by the tourist guide chambers, and taking 75 points from YDS, foreign language proficiency test, in at least one foreign language. Tourist guides have the chance to work as freelancers or employed by a travel agency in the sector. Program graduates also have employment opportunities in other tourism establishments, particularly in accommodation and travel businesses. Program graduates also have employment opportunities in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism through KPSS (public personnel selection examination)
Access to Further Studies
Candidates who successfully complete associate degree program are entitled to take undergraduate education upon taking sufficient points in the relevant point type in Vertical Transfer Examination(DGS), that is held by ÖSYM (Measuring, Selection and Placement Center). In DGS, the graduates of this program can choose programs such as Tourism Management, Travel Management, Tourist Guidance and Travel Management and Business.
