Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading
According to the education and examination regulations of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Faculty of Medicine;
Principles regarding Term 1, 2 and 3 education and exams
ARTICLE 26- (1) Education consists of course boards and common compulsory and elective courses conducted in an integrated system in Terms 1, 2 and 3.
(2) The following exams are held in Term 1, 2, 3:
a) Course board exam: It is the exam held at the end of each course board. The course board exam replaces the midterm exam.
b) End of term exam: It is the exam held at the end of each academic year, after the last course board exam, and covers all the course boards taught that year.
c) End-of-term make-up exam: This is the exam held for students who were not successful despite fulfilling the attendance requirements or who could not take the exam for any reason even though they were entitled to the end-of-term exam.
d) Vocational skills practices exam: This is the exam conducted to evaluate professional skills practices.
d) Problem-based teaching evaluation (PBL): It is an evaluation made to measure problem-based teaching practices.
e) Make-up exam: An excuse exam is held for students who cannot take the course board exam due to their excuses and whose excuses are accepted by the Board of Directors. The course board make-up exam is held once and on the date determined by the Dean's Office. A student who does not take the make-up exam is not given the right to take another make-up exam. Make-up exam rights are not given for final exams and make-up exams.
(3) Exam results are announced within seven working days at the latest after analysis and corrections are made if necessary. All exam grades are announced by the term coordinator and forwarded to the Dean's Office.
Evaluation of success in Term 1, 2 and 3 exams
ARTICLE 27- (1) The following principles are followed in the calculation of course committee exam grades:
a) Board exams are conducted as written exams and/or using alternative methods such as homework/projects. Exams can be administered face-to-face and/or using digital facilities. In addition to written exams, practical-application and/or oral exams can be held face-to-face and/or using digital facilities. Different evaluation methods can be determined for problem-based teaching, vocational skills training and other similar educational practices.
b) The total grades of practical courses and their distribution according to courses, the grade weight of professional skills practices, problem-based teaching, formative exams and other similar education and exam practices and their distribution according to boards are determined by the term coordinators in line with the content of the education program.
c) In a course board exam, each course and practice exam has its own threshold. The threshold limit is 50%. If the student receives a score below 50% in one or more of the courses that make up the board in the course board exam, the score difference between the score obtained in that branch and 50% of the total score of that branch is deducted from the total exam score and that exam grade of course board is determined. For courses whose number of questions is less than 5% of the total number of questions in that exam, the relevant term coordinator may decide to combine the threshold application. The course board exam score is calculated by adding up the theoretical and practical scores of the courses that make up the course board.
d) If the result is found to be negative in calculating the total score of the course committee, this score is evaluated as zero.
(2) Course committee average grade: To calculate the average grade for the course committee grade of any term; The ECTS value of each board in that period is multiplied by the coefficient of the letter grade received from that board. The values found as a result of multiplication are added up and the total value obtained is divided by the total ECTS value of these boards. The average obtained is shown as two digits after the comma.
(3) Final and make-up exams of course boards are conducted as written exams and/or using alternative methods such as homework/projects. Exams can be administered face-to-face and/or using digital facilities. In addition to written exams, practical and/or oral exams can also be held using face-to-face and/or digital facilities. Practical exams are conducted using alternative methods such as homework/projects.
(4) In order to be considered successful, it is mandatory to get at least 50 points from final exam of the course boards or the final make-up exam of the course boards.
(5) The course committee final grade is the grade obtained by adding 60% of the average grade of the course boards and 40% of the final exam grade. In the calculation of the the final grade of students who take make-up exams, the grade obtained from the make-up exam is taken as the basis instead of the grade obtained from the final exam. In order for the student to pass to the next grade, the student must get at least 50 in the final exam of the course boards or the final make-up exam of the course boards and the final grade of the course boards must be at least 60 out of 100.
(6) The provisions of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Associate and Undergraduate Education Regulations are applied in the conduct of common compulsory courses and elective/compulsory courses that are not coded TIP/MED and in the evaluation of their exams.
Exemption from the final exam in Term 1, 2 and 3
ARTICLE 28- (1) Students who have an average grade of 85 or above in the course boards and who get at least 60 or above in each course board do not have to take the final exam. The average grade of the course boards of the students who have the right to be exempt from the final exam is accepted as the final grade of the course boards.
(2) Students who wish to participate in the exam, although they have received the right to be exempt from the final exam, must notify the Dean's Office with a petition at least seven days before the exam date. Applications not submitted within the deadline will not be processed.
