Recognition of Prior Learning

With lateral transfer programs, students are accepted in the quotas determined at the beginning of the semester, depending on their academic success.

History

In the light of universal values, our program, which strives to raise well-equipped individuals with professional values ??for the future of the country by making use of science, technology and art accumulation, and to encourage these individuals to produce for the benefit of society in the fields of research, education and service, accepted its first students in the 2013-2014 academic year. In the 2017-2018 academic year, there are 5 faculty members in our Department, which gave its first graduates as Middle School Mathematics Teachers.

Profile of the Programme

Mathematics Education Department, with its 4-year undergraduate program based on contemporary approaches in teacher training; • Have the basic knowledge, skills and abilities required for the teaching profession. • Able to follow the work done in the field • Taking scientific processes as a basis in his life • Being able to access information and turn information into production. • High problem solving skills • Have creative, innovative and entrepreneurial qualities • Knowing and respecting the common values ??of the society • Able to work as a team • Awareness of professional and ethical issues • Able to use different teaching methods and strategies in teaching processes • Knowing and applying measurement-evaluation approaches aims to train qualified teachers. Within the framework of this purpose, both vocational and field knowledge and general culture courses were included in the department program in order to ensure the academic development of teacher candidates. The Department aims to increase knowledge and experience by supporting student and academician exchange through bilateral agreements with internationally respected quality institutions. As of 2007, the Department has bilateral agreements within the scope of ERASMUS, FARABI and MEVLANA Student and Academician Exchange Program. The Department of Mathematics Education serves in the Faculty of Education Building and has 39 classrooms, a library, computer laboratories and a Mathematics Education Classroom. Projectors, overhead projectors, smart boards, etc. in classrooms. such as technological tools and internet connection. Within the Faculty of Education, there are 2 group and 5 individual psychological counseling rooms to serve students by the faculty members of the relevant department. In the Department of Mathematics Education, there are 120 pre-service teachers and 5 academic staff, including 4 associate professors and 1 doctoral faculty member.

Program Outcomes

1- Has the basic theoretical and practical teaching knowledge required by the elementary mathematics teaching.
2- Has the ability of mathematical thinking required by elementary mathematics teaching
3- Have sufficient knowledge about the nature of scientific knowledge and scientific research processes.
4- Develops concrete solutions by approaching the problems encountered in daily life from a mathematical point of view.
5- Closely monitors the innovations and developments in the personal and professional field and uses them in the learning-teaching process.
6- Uses the English language effectively to support his / her personal and professional studies.
7- Easily access the information resources needed for mathematics teaching and effectively utilize these resources to solve problems.
8- Selects or designs suitable materials for teaching mathematical concepts.
9- Has knowledge about the development and nature of mathematical knowledge.
10- Selects and uses the appropriate measurement and evaluation methods according to the objectives of the program.
11- Knows the common misconceptions encountered in mathematics learning and produces solutions for misconceptions.
12- Using the functions to create appropriate solution algorithms, encodes the algorithms in computer algebra systems and applies the algorithm.
13- Determines the students learning requirements and directs their learning.
14- Participates actively in artistic and cultural activities.
15- Teaches mathematics and plans and implements various activities inside and outside the school as individual and / or team to develop a positive attitude towards learning and mathematics.
16- Active participant in activities related to mathematics education such as exhibition, competition and festivity.
17- Follows up professional developments in at least one foreign language at the international level and shares them with their colleagues.
18- Acquires and uses the resources and applications provided by personal and IT technologies.
19- Exhibits attitudes and behaviors that are appropriate to the teaching profession and creates an example for the society with her external appearance.
20- Acts in accordance with democracy, human rights, social, scientific and professional ethical values.
21- Knows the laws, regulations and regulations related to the duties and responsibilities of the teaching profession and acts accordingly.
22- Self-evaluation by observing its own development in learning and teaching processes; apply lifelong learning skills.

24- Knows and applies effective educational approaches and teaching strategies for different groups in need of special education.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

Exams are given by the responsible lecturer of the relevant course, with at least one midterm and one final exam. If the instructor wishes, he can increase the number of midterm exams to 2; can use each grading by giving homework and projects by determining the coefficients while evaluating. Evaluation of the exams is done with a relative system in our department as well as in all the schools, faculties and institutes within our university and other units affiliated to the rectorate.

Graduation Requirements

It is based on Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Associate Degree, Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations. Students who have the right to graduate are given the diploma of the relevant program according to the provisions of the regulation. a) To successfully complete all the courses, practices and internships stipulated by the program they are registered in, in accordance with the provisions of the regulation above. To have successfully completed a total of 240 ECTS courses, 215 of which are compulsory and 25 ECTS are elective courses, in the Mathematics Teaching Curriculum. b) Having a GPA of at least 2 out of 4.00 c) Not being dismissed from the university for the reasons stated in the relevant article(s) of this regulation.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates of the Department of Primary Education Mathematics Education are appointed as Mathematics Teachers to public and private education institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education with the title of "Mathematics Teacher".

Access to Further Studies

Candidates who have successfully completed their undergraduate education can study in graduate programs in their field or related fields, provided that they get a valid grade from the ALES exam and have sufficient English language knowledge.
