Specific Admission Requirements
a. Students will be accepted according to the articles of Rules and Regulations of
Mugla Sitki Kocman University Graduate Studies. (Muğla Sıtkı Koçman Üniversitesi Lisansüstü Eğitim-Öğretim Yönetmeliği)
b. Holding a master degree acknowledged by respective Institute Committee (Enstitü Anabilim Kurulu) and approved by the Institute Administrative Committee (Enstitü Yönetim Kurulu)
c. Students need to get minimum 55 from equal weighted ALES standard score or they need to have an equivalent score accepted by the Inter-university Council (Üniversitelerarası Kurul)
d. Minimum 55 score from National Foreign Language Examination (KPDS and YDS), or they need to have an equivalent score accepted by the Inter-university Council (Üniversitelerarası Kurul)
Qualification Requirements
Students need to complete core and elective courses in the program, need to hold minimum score of 55 from National Foreign Language Examination (YDS) or an equivalent score from international language examinations to proceed to PhD Proficiency Exam; and pass it successfully; and need to complete the PhD thesis successfully
Recognition of Prior Learning
Having completed master degree in Labour Economics and Industrial Relations program. Those who have a master degree in other fields are required to take conditional courses for an academic year, two semesters, in Labour Economics and Industrial Relations department.
History
Graduate School of Social Sciences (Muğla Sıtkı Koçman Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü) was established in 1992 and began operating in 1993. Bachelor studies are offered since 2004 and master studies since 2011 in Labour Economics and Industrial Relations department. Doctoral studies initiated in 2016-2017 academic year. In 2017-2018 academic year, Labor and Human Resources Management Non-Thesis Master's Program was opened.
Profile of the Programme
Labour Economics and Industrial Relations PhD Program are comprised of an education system that contributes to both theoretical and practical knowledge in social policy and industrial relations fields. The main objective is to ensure incorporation and development of interdisciplinary knowledge specific to the field. Another objective of the program is to train senior and qualified personnel for both public and private sectors. For this purpose, education and research areas of the program are divided into key areas such as labour economics, human resources management, social policy, labour and social security law, industrial relations and employment. To succeed in the program students are required to have the ability of analytical thinking.
Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading
Attendance of 70% is obligatory to courses during the PhD program. Success is measured on the basis of the scores of mid-terms, final exams and papers. Exams are evaluated over 100 points. Passing grade is calculated through the addition 30% of the average score of the midterm exams and %70 of the score of the final exam or the resit exam. Passing grade for PhD Program is 75 over 100; 2.5 (BC) over 4.00. Letters of G (Passing Grade) or B (Successful) are used for not included courses, special studies and PhD thesis when they are completed successfully. Graduation Requirements
Student need to succeed 7 courses determined by the Labour Economics and Industrial Relations Department Committee, pass the PhD proficiency exam, and propose a thesis proposal and get accepted and also present a seminar study. Students whose thesis proposal is accepted need to prepare, present an authentic thesis in the related field and apply a known method to a new field or contribute to its respective field and defend the thesis in front of the thesis jury.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates of the department can be employed as researchers and as economists and managers in employees’ and employers’ trade unions as well as in human resources and industrial relations departments of public and private companies. In addition, they can work in social security institutions and in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security as experts. There are opportunities as consultant positions in private consulting firms, Turkish Employment Agency, as well as in all other employment related companies.
Access to Further Studies
Having completed their doctorate education successfully, students are awarded with PhD degree can carry on to post-doc studies.
