Specific Admission Requirements

Accepted with respect to students numerical score of their YKS results examined by OSYM

Qualification Requirements

To successfully complete the 240.0 ECTS courses in the undergraduate program of architecture.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students are accepted with the transfer program according to the academic success status within the quota determined at the beginning of the academic year.

History

In 2018-2019 academic year, our department has been active in the undergraduate program. The language of education is Turkish.

Profile of the Programme

About 80 undergraduate students are admitted to our program each year.

Program Outcomes

1- Analytical Thinking: To be able to transform complex facts into data that can be solved in the context of cause-effect relations, to analyze collected data, to synthesize different information and thoughts, to interpret the results obtained and to be able to use them in the architectural design process.
2- Critical Thinking: To be able to develop clear questions, to use abstract ideas for expressing thoughts, to evaluate opposing views, to be able to reach and test well-questioned results.
3- Effective Expression: To have the ability of effective reading, writing, communicating, presentation and verbal expression in Turkish.
4- Creative Thinking: To be able to distinguish architectural predecessors in terms of various qualities and to develop a unique character and to identify situations without any premise, to have the ability to mobilize information / experience to produce a new value.
5- Individual study: To have the ability to work individually and take responsibility.
6- Professional Ethics and Responsibility: Interpreting the wishes of the users in line with the requirements of individuals, environment and society, taking into account the natural, cultural and social factors in preparing the program proposals, understanding of the role of the architectural profession and the role of the architect in the society and gaining the awareness of the responsibility to implement all these concepts.
7- Collective Study: To be able to work as a team, to work effectively as a team in multidisciplinary fields, to be able to communicate and take responsibility.
8- Architectural Expression Techniques: To be able to produce qualified architectural expressions while acting with the notion of designer in all stages of architectural projects from design to application; to use modern tools, techniques and technologies related to project design, design, drawing, software and application.
9- Environmental Ethics: To have the ability to understand the issues of sustainability, to be aware of the international documents and information on this subject, to apply this knowledge while practicing the profession at local and global scale, architecture and planning decisions.
10- Structural Design: Understanding the structural design, structure and engineering problems associated with building design.
11- History Consciousness and Theory: To gain awareness of the autonomous knowledge area of architectural design; to be able to position architectural objects and discourses within different fields of knowledge and research, to relate the effects of historical phenomena on architectural object creation processes within the framework of certain chronologies, to develop the ability to follow concepts, ideas and processes that can be included in design processes in architectural writing.
12- Life Security: Contingency plans, awareness of life-threatening issues, adequate information on natural disasters and the inclusion of these subjects in the design process.
13- Legal Responsibilities: To be aware of the legal consequences of architectural applications, to have an adequate knowledge of the business lines, organizations, regulations and procedures related to the integration of the design ideas into the general planning process.
14- Building Systems and Integration: To have adequate knowledge about the technologies, construction functions and materials that can provide solutions to the physical problems in order to control the interior comfort conditions and climate conditions in the buildings.
15- Accessibility: To have the ability to understand and develop the universal design principles that will enable the spatial recommendations developed to be accessible, accessible and understandable for everyone.
16- To be able to manage design process: To be able to do research for a design project, to determine the needs of the user, to prepare the need program and to interpret this need program in ways that will produce value for the individual and the public, to establish organizational relations among the perpetrators and factors involved in the design process and to have the ability to develop effective solutions to the problems that may arise during the design process.
17- Historical Environment and Protection: To understand the principles of preservation and evaluation of concrete and intangible heritage.
18- International Review and Communication: To have at least one foreign language knowledge in the field of architecture in order to follow and use the professional literature and other international developments.
19- Managing the Application Process: To be able to understand the basic concepts of office organization, business planning, project management, risk management and leadership, building economics and cost control, site management and applications, awareness of employees'  health, environment and occupational safety.
20- Atatürk's Principles and Republic: To be able to descend to the historical roots of the Turkish revolution and to have consciously possessed Atatürk's principles and revolutions, to have the ability to discuss the Republic and the researches of that period in the context of architecture.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

The type of assessment and evaluation applied for each course is described in detail in the Course Teaching Plan in accordance with the Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Regulations for Undergraduate Education and Examination.

Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate from the Department of Architecture, at the end of a four-year undergraduate program, students have successfully completed 8 semesters of courses and total credits (164 local credits and 240 ECTS), STJ 02 (Construction Site), STJ 03 (Office) internships and these internships must be accepted.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Officer or contracted: in central and local government institutions, in the construction departments of universities and banks, As an academician: In universities, Paid or free status: It can be employed in architectural offices.

Access to Further Studies

Candidates who successfully complete the undergraduate education can start to the master's education if they have the required scores, ALES and YDS and are successful in the graduate science examination.
