Qualification Awarded
Students who graduate from the Emergency and Disaster Management programme of the Department of Property Protection and Security gain the title of ‘Emergency and Disaster Management Technician’.
Specific Admission Requirements
Student admission to the department takes place in case of completing the processes determined by OSYM within the framework of the academic and legal regulations of the university / passing the exams. In accordance with the relevant regulations established by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), students are admitted to this program according to the central examination system called YKS and YKS score type. The students are placed in the related programs by the Student Selection and Placement Center according to the score they get from this exam after informing them about the program preferences they want to study.
Qualification Requirements
1) Evaluate and apply the knowledge gained from basic theoretical and practical courses supported by textbooks, application tools and other resources including current information in the field of Emergency and Disaster Management. 2) Informs the related persons and institutions by using the basic knowledge and skills in the field of Emergency and Disaster Management and conveys their thoughts and solution suggestions to problems in written and verbal form. 3) Carries out a given task independently by using his / her basic knowledge and skills in the field of Emergency and Disaster Management. 4) Takes part in the team to solve unforeseen complex problems encountered in the applications related to the field of Emergency and Disaster Management, acts in accordance with quality management and processes and takes individual responsibility when necessary. 5) Acts in accordance with social, scientific, cultural and ethical values ??in the stages of collecting, interpreting, implementing and announcing the data related to the field of Emergency and Disaster Management. 6) Acts as an individual working in the field of Emergency and Disaster Management, acts in accordance with the laws, regulations and legislation related to his / her duties, rights and responsibilities. 8) Uses information and communication technologies successfully together with the computer software required by the field of Emergency and Disaster Management. 9) Interprets and evaluates the data by using the basic knowledge and skills acquired in the field of Emergency and Disaster Management, identifies, analyzes and takes part in the studies planned for the solution / takes responsibility. 10) Participates in the necessary programs, professional in-service training activities and other activities to update the knowledge, skills and competencies related to Emergency and Disaster Management with the awareness of lifelong learning and to develop himself / herself personally and professionally. 11) Follows the events of the society and the world in the field of Emergency and Disaster Management and is sensitive to developments. 12) Develop solutions to the issues related to professional and ethical values.
Recognition of Prior Learning
The Prior Learning of the students who had previously studied in another Higher Education Institution, by the Higher Education Council, Yüksek Transition between Associate Degree and Bachelor Degree Programs in Higher Education Institutions Öğretim Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Associate Degree and Bachelor's Degree Education Regulations. In our department, outside of the formal education institutions, certificate-based or experience-based (in-formal / non-formal) learning is not recognized at present. However, for the Foreign Language (English, German, French etc.) courses included in all Higher Education programs, an Exemption Exam is held at the beginning of each academic semester. Students who think that these courses provide the required qualifications have the right to take the exams. Students who pass the exam are exempted from the related courses.
History
Kavaklıdere Şehit Mustafa Alper Vocational High School Department of Property Protection and Security Emergency and Disaster Management program will be started in 2018-2019 semester. The program has 40 students. Emergency and Disaster Management syllabus are provided with the basic concepts that should be known in this field and they are educated in a scientific environment by using the advantages of formal education and teaching and gaining vocational skills. The lectures will be taught in detail by expert instructors and applications will be made. In addition, field applications will be made within the scope of the courses and current applications will be shown to the students on the spot. In addition, a modern learning environment is provided by utilizing the opportunities provided by technology (computer, slide, video). There are 3 instructors in the Emergency and Disaster Management Program. In addition to their lectures, academic staffs carry out scientific research, publish their works in international and national journals, and participate in congresses and symposiums on national and international level.
Profile of the Programme
Level 5 is an associate degree program aiming to gain academic and professional qualifications. The student completes 120 ECTS credits and graduates from the program. Training period 2 years (Internship period is included.) The student makes horizontal and vertical transfer in accordance with the related legislation of YÖK.
The Emergency and Disaster Management Program aims to train qualified intermediate personnel who are able to transform their knowledge and experience into applications, open to social and technological innovations, productive, enterprising, respectful to the environment and gained the necessary professional competencies in line with scientific and technological developments.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading
At least one midterm and final exam are given for each given course. The effect of the mid-term exam is 40% and 60% of the final exam. In this evaluation; The instructor of the course takes into account the statistical results of the points taken from the mid-term and final exams of the students taking the course and the notes taken are converted into 4-letter system according to the principles determined in the regulation. A student taking one of the grades AA, BA, BB, CB and CC is considered successful. DC and DD grades taken from a course are evaluated depending on the student's graduation AGNO. These courses are described as successful if the student's AGNO is above the success threshold (2,00). In mid-terms / years, these letter grades are evaluated with the coefficients in the calculation of AGNO. Students who have an FF grade are unsuccessful, must take the course in the first semester / year and have to fulfill the exam requirements. Lessons appraised by MM and GG are not included in the assessment.
Graduation Requirements
The minimum required to graduate from this program is 120 ECTS with 108 compulsory and 12 elective courses. 30 working days 1st Class / 2. Internship is mandatory for 30 working days.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Students who graduate from this programme can work as search and rescue technicians in the technician positions opened by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), provided that they meet the conditions determined by the institution.
Access to Further Studies
Students who graduate from the programme can transfer to formal education undergraduate programmes with the vertical transfer exam (DGS). The undergraduate programmes that can be transferred with DGS are Emergency Aid and Disaster Management undergraduate programme.
Mode of Study
Turkey's earthquake as a country is geographically possible risk for natural disasters, a catastrophe there is the vital importance of the community to take the initiative to have the best trained manpower. The objective of this program is to take the planning such as earthquake, flood, avalanche, landslide training, awareness raising and project development; meaning of being a disaster, having coordination, reducing its necessity, having knowledge and skills and skills related to the occupation and management of the activity, raising focused and entrepreneurial staff. This program is designed to help students improve their understanding of emergency and disaster management, outdoor activities, analysis and communication skills, and develop a pathway for planning, security, evacuation, pre-disaster planning and legal basis. Those who successfully complete this program are entitled to associate degree in Emergency and Disaster Management. Graduates receive the title of Emergency and Disaster Management Technician. Our graduates can do and manage deprivation activities of those who are away from those who will be able to take, receive, do and coordinate in areas such as disaster collection training, awareness raising, project development, and make an environmental management at the center, which can be undertaken by the crisis desk responsible in disasters. They will be able to undertake, manage and direct search and rescue operations under any condition, and arrange periodic training on search and rescue and survival to all surrounding people by adjusting the environment. It is possible that it can become proactive preparation.
