Qualification Awarded

Bachelor's Degree in History

Specific Admission Requirements

To the Department of History; Students who qualify for admission according to the SÖZ score and preference ranks in the central exam held by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), whose procedures and principles are determined by YÖK, are accepted. Students who have the right to enter the program register at the Student Affairs Registration Office within our Faculty of Literature on the dates determined and announced each year with the documents requested in accordance with the principles determined by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) and ÖSYM.

Qualification Requirements

Proficiency in the program to perform the minimum level of proficiency in the program, which is available in the program taken, (a total of 240 ECTS) courses (C / S) of 4.00 and successfully complete all required to have a GPA of at least 2.00. Taken, 'Elective Courses' to be achieved. The curriculum renewal / change of course due to the Abolition of the decision of the Divisional Board or in case of opening of the course are subject to change.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Earlier the students who have attended another institution of higher education Prior Learning, to be determined by the Board of Higher Education "in Higher Education Associate Degree and Bachelor Degree Programs Level Switch, CIF Major, Minor and Inter-Credit Transfer Basis" and "Regulation Sıtkı Koçman Mugla University, Associate Degree and Bachelor of Education Regulations "are recognized. Outside of the formal education or experience in the department based on the certificate (in-formal/non-formal) is not recognized at the moment of learning. However, in all higher education programs in foreign language (English, German, French, et all.) Exemption Examination Courses are held at the beginning of every academic year. Students, who are expected to take examinations in these courses have the right qualifications. Students who take the exam and pass the course will be exempt from the related course.

History

The Department of History in the Faculty of Humanities and Letters at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University started Barchelor’s and Master degree programs in the Academic Year 1994-1995. In the academic year 2010 - 2011, the department started evening education offering B. Sc. Degree, and since the academic year 2011-2012, Ph. D. degree program is available for those who desire further their studies in history.

Profile of the Programme

The mission of the History Department is not only to promote historical knowledge and related disciplines but also to get the students gain a perspective of awareness by which today's political, economic, social, cultural events are possible to evaluate in a comprehensive perspective.

Program Outcomes

1- Has a good command of the languages of the area to read the historical sources.
2- Selects, uses and develops modern tools necessary for area applications and makes effective use of information technologies.
3- Knows scientific research methods in the field of history and applies them in scientific studies.
4- Thanks to the discipline of history, she seeks the correct knowledge of the past, interprets the future better, and contributes to the material and moral values of her country.
5- Recognizes archives and uses archive resources in their scientific studies.
6- Analyzes the concepts, thoughts and facts about history that are not known in the scientific world, and presents a perspective to the development of society with new findings.
7- Examines the basic concepts, thoughts and data related to the discipline of history methodologically.
8- To act impartially and without prejudice in the interpretation and synthesis of historical facts, learns and applies to consider social, scientific and ethical values.
9- By recognizing the common cultural heritage of the past, strengthens the belief in the ability of the society in which it lives to develop in the future.
10- By learning about the past, evaluates the present better.
11- Has an analytical and holistic perspective in the field of history.
12- Expresses the data obtained about the discipline of history in written and orally in a clear way; has knowledge of at least one foreign language.
13- Takes at least two non-departmental courses before graduating from the program.
14- Gains the ability to work effectively individually and in teams.
15- Gains the awareness of lifelong learning, the ability to access information, to follow the developments in science and technology, and to constantly renew itself.
16- Gains knowledge about the legal legislation of the profession of historians.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

In the History Program at least one midterm exam for each course and a final exam. Assessment quizzes and homework done also. Success midterm grade, the effect of short-term exams and assignments, 40% of the final exam is 60%. In this evaluation, the course instructor, the course, the students' mid-term and final exams taken and grades received scores take into account the results of the statistical framework of the principles outlined in the directive is converted to 4-letter system. Student's cumulative GPA is created notes (WGPA) two consecutive periods less than 2.00 can not take those lessons to the next period. AA, BA, BB, CB and CC grade, that course is considered successful. A student from the DC and DD, depending on the student's graduation is considered AGNO'suna. AGNO'su grade student achievement threshold (2.00) is defined as successful on these courses. December semesters / years, however, WGPA evaluated by calculating the coefficients of these grades. The student who failed a grade of FF, the course is offered in the first semester / year, and continue taking the exam must fulfill the requirements. The grade is appreciated by MM and DD lectures, WGPA participate in the calculation of the assessment.

Graduation Requirements

The normal duration of the program is 4 years. In order for students to graduate from the undergraduate program, they must successfully complete all of the courses (equivalent to 240 ECTS in total) and have a GPA of 2.0 or above.Students with a GPA of 2.00 or above as of the 3rd semester can complete the program in 3.5 years by taking courses / courses from the following / upper semesters, provided that they do not exceed the maximum amount of credits they can take in one semester. However, the Diploma is awarded at the end of the 4th year (8th semester).

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Successful and well-equipped students can follow an academic carrier continuing with M. Sc. or Ph. D. programs after being qualified as Barchelor’s degree. The graduated students who have non-thesis master's degree or equivalent education and pedagogical training can teach in high schools or can be assigned in public institutions, such as General Directorate of State Archives, the Ministry of Culture, the Municipality & City Archives, The General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Access to Further Studies

Students who have completed their undergraduate education can receive postgraduate education in their own fields or related fields within the framework of the Council of Higher Education Graduate Education and Training Regulations and the Graduate Education and Training Regulations of Universities. If students choose a field other than the undergraduate field they graduated from, they are taken to the Scientific Preparatory Program within the framework of the relevant directives, and if they are successful, they can start graduate education. Admission to Graduate Education is determined within the framework of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Institute of Social Sciences Graduate Education and Training Regulations.

Mode of Study

Graduate The department has seven main branches: Ancient History, Medieval History, Early Modern History, Modern History, History of the Republic of Turkey, General Turkish History, and History of Ottoman Institutions and Civilization. The main objective of the history department is to enable students to objectively evaluate the political, military, cultural, and economic conditions of the societies that people have formed together from the past to the present, both within themselves and with other societies, as well as the changes, developments and interactions in these fields in various ways in accordance with the historical method. In this way, the department aims to train generations equipped with the necessary equipment in line with the requirements of the modern age, who look at historical events from a scientific perspective, make judgments about them, and make logical and consistent predictions about the future within themselves.
