Specific Admission Requirements

To obtain the minimum grade specified for Undergraduate Placement Exam (LYS)

Qualification Requirements

Proficiency in the program to perform the minimum level of proficiency in the program, which is available in the program taken, (a total of 240 ECTS) courses (C / S) of 4.00 and successfully complete all required to have a GPA of at least 2.00. Taken, 'Elective Courses' to be achieved. The curriculum renewal / change of course due to the Abolition of the decision of the Divisional Board or in case of opening of the course are subject to change.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Earlier the students who have attended another institution of higher education Prior Learning, to be determined by the Board of Higher Education "in Higher Education Associate Degree and Bachelor Degree Programs Level Switch, CIF Major, Minor and Inter-Credit Transfer Basis" and "Regulation Sıtkı Koçman Mugla University, Associate Degree and Bachelor of Education Regulations "are recognized. Outside of the formal education or experience in the department based on the certificate (in-formal/non-formal) is not recognized at the moment of learning. However, in all higher education programs in foreign language (English, German, French, et ??al.) Exemption Examination Courses are held at the beginning of every academic year. Students, who are expected to take examinations in these courses have the right qualifications. Students who take the exam and pass the course will be exempt from the related course.

History

The department has started its education program in undergraduate level in Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University in 1994-1995. Besides, it offers lessons in evening education since 2003-2004. Every year, approximately 60 students are being accepted in regular and evening education programs. Curriculum of Turkish Language and Literature includes lessons oof Turkish Language, Contemporary Turkish Literature, Classic Turkish Literature, and Turkish Folk Literature majors. In first four semesters, compulsory lessons covering basic and essential knowledge, and in last four semesters elective lessons providing students the feedback they need for expertising in field of interests. Lessons are taught in inticate detail by the lecturers, and the students are encouraged for more research and application. In this sense, students are offered a modern education environment provided with high-tech (computer, slides, videoes, overhead projectors). Moreover, students are fostered to make research homework and projects each semester. Students are required to obtain 240 ECTS for graduation. For the time being there are 6 professors, 1 associate professors, and 9 assisstant professors, and 7 research assistants. Lecturers, alongside with their lessons, are making researches, and attending national and international congresses and sempoziums in their field. A summer school, called "Turcology Days, is being held since 2002 in the department. Moreover, International World's Language Turkish Sempozium was held in December 22-24 2011 by our department. In department of Turkish Language and Literature a student-centered education system is applied. Students are efficient in determining and specifying the lesson and exam programs through their student representatives. Students are fostered in their scientific and creative activities with a appropriate environment. Board of Student Representatives, Literature Society, most of whose members are from department's students and Metin Bilim Topluluğu (Society) are participating in department's activities. Various panels, conferences and reading days are being held throughout the academic year.

Profile of the Programme

Mission of our department is to contribute studying, introducing, protecting, developing Turkish language, literature and culture with education and scientific activities.

Program Outcomes

1- Identifying, recognizing, and using the basic theoretical and practical terms about Turkish Language and Literature with qualified knowledge.
2- The ability to determine, identify, formulate, and solve the problems in the field of Turkish Language and Literature. The ability to choose appropriate research, and interpretation methods, and to apply these methods fort his purpose.
3- To recognize, and interpret an era, a literary work or a text, to solve the related problems, to apply contemporary methods, and theories.
4- Taking at least 2 course of non-area in the programmes of instruction.
5- Choosing, using, and developing modern instruments which are needed for field applications, and using information technologies effectively.
6- Planning, data gathering, analyzing the results, archiving, analyzing and interpreting a text according to the field of Turkish Language and Literature.
7- Working individually, and in groups effectively.
8- Acquisite ability using the Turkish language correct, good and efficiently, and at least 1 foreign language.
9- Following the culture of access to information with life-long learning awareness, and developments in science and technology, and refreshing oneself continously.
10- Professional ethics, and sense of responsibility.
11- Awareness on social and universal effects of knowledge of Turkish Language and Literature (environment problems, economics, sustainability etc.), and on their legal consequences.
12- Supports the universality of social and cultural rights in Turkish Language and Literature, acquires awareness on social justice, protects historical and cultural heritage.
13- Uses, analyzes, and applies theoretical and practical informations which are learned in Turkish Language and Literature, in the fields of education, investigation, and community service.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

In the Turkish Language and Literature Program at least one midterm exam for each course and a final exam. Assessment quizzes and homework done also. Success midterm grade, the effect of short-term exams and assignments, 40% of the final exam is 60%. In this evaluation, the course instructor, the course, the students' mid-term and final exams taken and grades received scores take into account the results of the statistical framework of the principles outlined in the directive is converted to 4-letter system. Student's cumulative GPA is created notes (WGPA) two consecutive periods less than 2.00 can not take those lessons to the next period. AA, BA, BB, CB and CC grade, that course is considered successful. A student from the DC and DD, depending on the student's graduation is considered AGNO'suna. AGNO'su grade student achievement threshold (2.00) is defined as successful on these courses. December semesters / years, however, WGPA evaluated by calculating the coefficients of these grades. The student who failed a grade of FF, the course is offered in the first semester / year, and continue taking the exam must fulfill the requirements. The grade is appreciated by MM and DD lectures, WGPA participate in the calculation of the assessment.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Students who graduated from Department of Turkish Language and Literature, after completing necessary conditions (pedagogic formation) may start working as Turkish Language and Literature teachers in state and private schools of Ministry of National Education; may perform research and surveys in institutions and officces related with Turks and Turkish language, archieves and libraries, and press and broadcast institutions.

Access to Further Studies

Lecturers in Turkish Language and Literature Department are lecturing in Department of Turkish Language and Literature, graduate, post-graduate levels in Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Institute of Social Sciences. The daprtment accepts 15 students for graduate, and 5 students for post-graduate on average each year. In graduate and post-graduate programs lessons for expertising in Turkish Language, Contemporary Turkish Literature, Classic Turkish Literature, and Turkish Folk Literature majors are offered.

Mode of Study

Graduate 1. Teaching and promoting Turkish language, literature and culture in institutions and organizations operating at home and abroad; 2. Raising new generations with a scientific approach in public and private schools at the secondary level; 3. Doing postgraduate studies at domestic and foreign universities to improve their academic career; 4. To train support worker graduates in the field of media and communication.
