Qualification Awarded

Students are entitled to have an undergraduate certificate/diploma who are succesfully complete programme courses (total 240 ECTS) and achieve at least 2.00 GPA from 4.00 grade system. Students who are succesfully complete programme courses, have a graduate degree.

Specific Admission Requirements

It is needed to succeed in the exam conducted by OSYM for the acceptance to the universities in Turkey.

Qualification Requirements

To succeed in the program, a student must succeed all of the courses in program list (equivalent to 144 credits), and minimum 2,00 grade point average must be reached over 4,00.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Exams of exemption are organised at the start of each year at the University for the courses of English Language and Computer Skills. The students who have completed the proficiencies for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum.

History

The Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences was established in 1975 under the administration of The Ankara Academe of Economics and Commerce with the name of Mugla School of Business. In 1982, the School pursued its higher education activities under the administrative authority of Dokuz Eylül University. In 1992, after the establishment of the University of Mugla, the School was altered to a Faculty and became the core of the establishment of the University. The Department of Labour Economics and Indsutrial Relations started its teaching in the academic year of 2004-2005.

Profile of the Programme

The Department provides through its courses the basic concepts related to labour economics and industrial relations and it also provide the foundations of research related to social and economic life. In the Department, it is targeted to analyse working life through economics, business studies, accounting, sociology, physiology, law, organisation studies and offer solutions to the exiting problems in the area.

Program Outcomes

1- To evaluate, analyse and investigate the main concepts of individual and collective employment relations, and dispute and conflict in these relations and how to operate these relations
2- To explain and evaluate the coverage of the social security for people and risks and the conditions of how people can benefit from social security programmes.
3- To explain the responsibilities and functions of bodies of legislation, law enforcement and ruling about employment relations and the structure, operations and responsibilities of public institutions regulating and controlling employment relations.
4- To comprehend the impact of work on human being, environment and employers’ health. To explain the rights and responsibility of employees, employers and the state in case of work contain negative impacts on workers’ health.
5- To describe different meanings attached to social policy, historical evaluation, main factors and tools of social policy and to explain the relationships between social policy, social problems and social development. To explain organisations and institutions constituting international social policy, the structure and organisations of these institutions, the legislative sources and standards of international social policy.
6- To comprehend the social structure and organisational forms of contemporary world as well as production and employment systems; To posses the historical and methodological analytical tools in understanding the relationships between social inequalities and production and employment relations, the nature of social conflicts, and the relationship between the nature of this inherent conflict and the role of institutions regulating this conflict.
7- To acquire theoretical and conceptual understanding of employment, unemployment, wage, income distribution and poverty as well to have a critical approach to all these areas.
8- To behave according to work, organisations and societal ethical rules.
9- To acquire comprehensive knowledge about the sociological aspects of working life, to have the ability of transferring this knowledge to team members, to evaluate and analyse the related data and to identify problems and solve them.
10- To identify, analyse and offer solutions to the problems using the knowledge acquired through the method of human-centred management with lenses of socio-physiological in the workplace and working life.
11- To take part in a team or/and individual work; to work in a cooperative manner within other social science disciplines.
12- To be able explain and follow scientific studies published in Turkish and other languages. To prepare academic reports, presentations and articles.
13- To have learning skills through which all knowledge gained could be developed through life time.
14- To communicate effectively with different social parties involved in employment relations.
15- To communicate with other colleagues and follow occupational information in a European language supported with the general level of B1.
16- To be able use information and communication technologies supported by European Information Technologies.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

% 40 percent of the midterm grade and % 60 percent of the final exam grade add up to the overall passing grade. Students are required to take a mid-term examination and/or complete other assigned projects/homework during the semester and, additionally, are required to take a final examination and/or complete a final project for course evaluation.The assessment for each course is described in detail in “Individual Course Description”. The midterm examinations are compacted and given in the 8th week of the semester. In addition to midterm examinations and other work, students are required to take a final examination. Final examinations are held at the appropriate place and hour as decided. Forty percent of the midterm grade and sixty percent of the final exam grade add up to the overall passing grade. Students must attend classes, practices and examinations. Students' attendance is followed by the Instructor of the course. Graduation Requirements

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates of the department can be employed as researchers and as economists and managers in employees’ and employers’ trade unions as well as in human resources and industrial relations departments of public and private companies. In addition, they can work in social security institutions and in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security as experts. There are opportunities as consultant positions in private consulting firms, Turkish Employment Agency, as well as in all other employment related companies.

Access to Further Studies

The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes provided that a valid point of ALES examination and a sufficient level of foreign language knowledge.
