Specific Admission Requirements

Being a high school graduate is required to be eligible for the admission to the program. The program admits students through the language point type of YKS (Higher Education Institutions Exam).

Qualification Requirements

For Proficiency in the Program, it is necessary to fulfill the Program Qualifications at a minimum level, to successfully complete all of the courses (C/S) registered in the Program (for a total of 240 ECTS), and to have a weighted grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00. Registered 'Elective Courses' must be accomplished. In cases where the course is canceled or the course is not opened due to curriculum renewal/change, changes can be made by the Decision of the Department Board.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students studying at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University may be exempt from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. Students will be exempted from courses if the course content is approved by the relevant college/faculty/institute administrative board and applied in due time.

History

The Department of Translation and Interpretating, located within the Faculty of Letters of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, was established in 2000 and admitted students to the Master's Program for the first time in 2002. Since 2014, no students have been admitted to the Master's Program of the Department of Translation and Interpretating. In the 2019-2020 academic year, the English Translation and Interpreting Program started to accept its first undergraduate students with a quota of 40 people.

Profile of the Programme

At the Bachelor's Degree Program of English Translation and Interpreting, students may have a translation education in a second foreign language as well (bilingual education) along with the English translation and interpreting education (monolingual education). The second language that they will choose is limited to the education provided at the other Translation and Interpreting Divisions functioning in our department.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

The assessment and evaluation methods employed for each course in the program are defined in the “Course Structure Diagram” that are prepared by the concerned professors and are in the information package.

Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate, students are required to have fulfilled the terms in the Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Undergraduate Directive for Education and Examination, to have completed a total of 240 ECTS and to have a weighted grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00. The student must also successfully complete an undergraduate graduation project. The students have to serve their compulsory internships necessary for graduation. The compulsory internship is served in accordance with the Internship Directive of the Department of Translation and Interpreting. Registered 'Elective Courses' must be accomplished. In cases where the course is canceled or the course is not opened due to curriculum renewal/change, changes can be made by the Decision of the Department Board.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates of the program can work at both governmental institutions and in private sector. Along with governmental institutions such as Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry for European Affairs, other ministries, Constitutional Court, Turkish Radio and Television Corporation, Directorate General of Press and Information, Anadolu Agency, students are highly likely to be employed in areas such as translation offices in private sector, visual and print media organs, enterprises of tourism and publication, import-export companies.

Access to Further Studies

Students who have completed their undergraduate education can pursue Postgraduate Education in their own fields or areas of interest within the framework of the Graduate Education Regulations of the Council of Higher Education and the Graduate Education Regulations of the Universities. If the students choose a field other than their undergraduate field, they are taken to the Scientific Preparation Program within the framework of the relevant regulations; If they are successful, they can start Postgraduate Education. Admission to Postgraduate Education is determined within the framework of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Social Sciences Institute Graduate Education Regulations.
