PhD. degree is given in the field of Political Science and Internatinal Relations.

Specific Admission Requirements

Candidates who want to study this programme of PhD; a) Must have a master's degree with a thesis, b) Must receive required points in ALES c) Provide the necessary English language proficiency d) Must be successful in the examination held by the department.

Qualification Requirements

In order for students to obtain a doctorate degree in Political Science and International Relations; They must successfully complete at least 7 courses, seminar courses, proficiency, thesis proposal and thesis work courses, take courses worth a total of 240 ECTS, and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00 out of 4.00.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students who have completed at least one semester in graduate programs in other higher education institutions can be admitted to the graduate programs of the university through horizontal transfer. The courses taken by the student while enrolled in a graduate program of another university and will be counted as a minimum course load is determined by the approval of the Graduate School Administrative Board.

History

Muğla University Institute of Social Sciences was established in accordance with the additional article 25/e of the Law dated 30.07.1992 and numbered 3837 and started its educational activities in 1993. In the institute, education is given at the master's level in sixteen departments and at doctorate level in eleven departments. The Department of Political Science and International Relations received the approval of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) to open a doctoral program on February 4, 2021.

Profile of the Programme

Political Science and International Relations Doctorate Program aims to enable students who have gained expertise in the field of interest by completing their master's education with thesis, to contribute to the production of knowledge in their field of specialization by examining current political developments and academic debates in a comprehensive and detailed manner. Within the scope of the program, students are provided with the necessary academic equipment to determine the scope of their research subjects and to examine the subject they have determined in accordance with scientific criteria, training and counseling. They are also provided knowledge to internalize scientific ethics and develop their systematic working skills. It is aimed that the students who successfully complete the program will become individuals who are preferred at national and international level with their intellectual background and research skills, who adopt the philosophy of lifelong learning as their principle, who can produce solutions to the problems of the region and the country, and who respect national and universal values.

Program Outcomes

1- Gain advanced theoretical, methodological and historical knowledge in the fields of political history, international relations, international law and political science. Can examine current political developments in the light of this information and makes scientific analyzes about them.
2- Have advanced knowledge about the economic, political and social dynamics of one or more of the major geographical, economic and political regions of the world; acquire historical knowledge and theoretical equipment to investigate the impact of local and global developments on these dynamics; gain the ability to systematically examine the interaction of national and international structures and actors in this region(s) with each other.
3- Can relate the connection between local and international politics theoretically and empirically, evaluate the effects of the geopolitical, economic, legal, social and cultural dimensions of this relationship on the concepts, scales and theories used in other fields of social sciences.
4- Can critically analyze the behavior and strategies of national and international actors and relate their historical transformation with the changes in the international conjuncture.
5- Can make speech analysis of political, diplomatic and academic texts; will be able to critically evaluate them by mapping the theoretical and political propositions of the arguments set forth in these texts.
6- Specializes in one or more of the major fields of study of the discipline such as international security, Turkish foreign policy, regional studies, conflict analysis and resolution, international law, comparative politics and has the academic qualifications to teach at undergraduate level in these fields.
7- Have advanced knowledge of the historical development of the philosophy of social sciences, the major scientific paradigms of the discipline, and the corresponding qualitative and quantitative research methods. By using these methods, (s)he produces original scientific studies in accordance with academic publication ethics in the field(s) in which it specializes.
8- It contributes to the literature in the field by presenting the results of the scientific studies (s)he has conducted as a paper in national and international congresses or by publishing it as an article in peer-reviewed journals.
9- Has social sensitivity in problematic areas such as gender, cultural differences, social justice, ecological problems, human rights and integration of disadvantaged groups; and conducts scientific research and develops concrete solution proposals regarding these issues with the critical perspective required by intellectual consciousness and intellectual morality.
10- As a project coordinator or participant, he/she takes responsibility in accordance with the project objectives in the projects carried out in his/her area of expertise.
11- Takes initiative, develops a strategy, sets a vision and goals in the company, institution, organization or organizations (s)he works for.
12- Using at least one foreign language, he/she follows the current political and international developments closely and expresses his/her views on them verbally and in writing.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

Each student must register for the courses at the beginning of the semester and must attend at least 70% of the courses in order to take the final exam. Students are subjected to at least one midterm exam, final exam and unsuccessful students take a make-up exam for each course. The contribution of the midterm exam to the success grade is 50% and the contribution of the final exam is 50%. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. Semester final grade is required to be at least 75 for each course. Students who get one of the letter grades (AA), (BA), (BB) and (CB) in a course are deemed to have succeeded in that course.

Graduation Requirements

In order to successfully complete the program, it is necessary to pass all the courses available in the program, to be successful in the doctoral qualifying exam, to submit a thesis proposal and to defend the thesis successfully. Students must complete a total of 240 ECTS and achieve a GPA of at least 3.00 out of 4.00.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Our graduates have the opportunity to work as academic and administrative staff at universities. In addition, our graduates have employment opportunities in various private sector organizations such as media organizations, financial institutions and multinational companies, international organizations and national and international non-governmental organizations, as in all areas of the public sector.
