Specific Admission Requirements

Within the framework of the regulations determined by the Higher Education Institution (YÖK), student admission to this program is made through the central examination system called ÖSYS. Students are placed in the relevant programs by the Student Selection and Placement Center according to the scores they get from this exam after they notify the program preferences they want to study.

Qualification Requirements

To successfully complete the program, all courses are available 2:00 weighted GPA of 4.00 to achieve and must successfully complete a professional internship

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students studying in the Horticulture Program may be exempt from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. If the content of the course taken at another institution is in accordance with the content of the course given in the Horticulture Program and it is approved by the relevant Vocational School directorate, the student may be exempted from this course.

History

In the 1998-1999 academic year, the program was opened and started to operate in its building on the Dalyan road. The program has taken the name of "Horticulture Program" since the 2011-2012 academic year.

Profile of the Programme

The horticultural sector is a sector that has never lost its validity and is always needed in terms of growing the crops that people constantly need. In this framework, it is aimed to make the education quality sustainable in accordance with national and international standards, to create a dynamic structure suitable for new technological developments and the conditions of the competitive market, to increase the research and publication activities of the academic staff, and to undertake more active tasks in national and international projects. Horticulture Associate Degree education program provides education in accordance with universal standards within the body of a university that has adopted the slogan of "University where knowledge integrates with love". For this purpose, educating scientifically equipped students, making the sharing mindset prevail, giving students access to information; to guide the society in the fields of research, education and service, to share information; The mission is to ensure that the graduates, who are equipped with theoretical and applied education, are demanded in the sector. Education and training activities continue with graduates who contribute to sustainable development at regional and national level by targeting maximum service and product quality, can apply what they have learned and evaluate their results.

Program Outcomes

1- Knowing the botanical properties of horticultural plants
2- Knowing the definition of soil, its composition and factors affecting soil formation; knowing the concept of soil fertility and plant nutrients and their functions, plant nutrition disorders
3- Knowing the mutual relations between the plant and the environment in which the plants live, and the techniques of growing fruits and vegetables.
4- Can calculate the area by measuring the land, draw the plan. Knowing the characteristics of agricultural tools and equipment and what they are used for and how they are used,
5- Classify the types of fruits and vegetables; Knowing cultuvated plants, knowing the processing technology, preserve and market the products obtained by performing maintenance works.
6- Knowing irrigated plants
7- Having knowledge about the fight methods against diseases and pests that can be encountered during cultivation.
8- Knowing the cultivation of temperate, subtropical and tropical climate fruits and the basic principles and legal procedure in organic farming production,
9- Knowing cultuvated vine plants
10- Knowing Good Agricultural Practices,
11- Knowing cultuvated fruit and vegetables. Knowledgeable about the use of biotechnology in crop production
12- Has the ability to conduct research, collect information and evaluate it using the internet and computers related to the field of his/her profession.
13- Knowing adopted the philosophy of total quality and is capable of supporting the relevant corporate processes.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

The Relative Evaluation System and the Absolute Evaluation System came into force with the Senate Decision dated 29 August 2012 and numbered 465/11 in accordance with the provisions of "Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education Regulations". Exams; consists of midterm, final exam, make-up exam, exemption exam and a single course exam. Grades taken in exams are then converted into letter grades. FF and FD grades as letter grades are unsuccessful; DD, DC, CC, CB, BB, BA and AA grades are considered successful.

Graduation Requirements

For graduation, it is required to pass all courses in the programme (120 ECTS), have a GPA of at least 2.00 and complete succesfully 60 work-day internship in agricultural firms.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Horticultural graduates can apply their knowledge and experience in their own private orchards and greenhouses as well as working in the fields of arboriculture, greenhouse cultivation, fruit and vegetable production units of public institutions and organizations and private organizations.

Access to Further Studies

Candidates who have successfully completed their associate degree education can transfer to the relevant Undergraduate Departments of Agriculture Faculties if they are successful in the Vertical Transfer Exam.
