Specific Admission Requirements
An applicant who gains the right to become a student at faculties and higher education schools of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University after passing exams conducted by Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), finishes enrollment process within due dates announced by the rectorship with relevant documents. The applicants who fail to enroll in time lose their right. Students are given ID cards after finisihing their final registration procedures.
Qualification Requirements
Students are required to renew their registrations at the beginning of each semester and within the periods specified in the academic calendar by paying the student contribution or tuition fee determined by the decision of the Council of Ministers. Students determine the courses that they will take in that semester/year with their academic advisors during the registration period. Students who have started the first year of a program applied to the course transfer system are required to take all courses related to the semester / year they are enrolled. In order to graduate from associate degree programs, associate degree students must take 120 ects courses.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of prior learning is carried out in accordance with the provisions of the "Regulation on the Principles of Transfer at Associate Degree and Bachelor Degree among Higher Education Institutions" published in the Official Gazette No. 17845. Horizontal transfer applications are evaluated and finalized by the board of directors. The duration of education of the students who transfer horizontally, taking into account the periods used in the institution where the student arrives from, is determined by the board of directors of the related unit so as not to exceed the maximum period determined by the law. The vertical transfers of the graduates of vocational high schools to the undergraduate programs of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University are made by the faculty board of directors in accordance with the provisions of the “Regulation on the Attendance of Graduates of Vocational Schools and Open Education Associate Degree Programs to undergraduate programs” published in the Official Gazette dated 19.02.2002 and numbered 24676. Transfers can be made among departments and programs of the faculties, schools and vocational schools of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University. The principles of these transitions are regulated by the directive determined by the university senate.
History
The Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Program was established in 2011 within the Department of Plant and Animal Production. Köyceğiz Vocational High School of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University has been enrolling students with approval of Higher Education Council (YÖK) since 2011. The department continuously strengthens its teaching staff and its educational and scientific activities along with laboratory facilities, technical equipment and physical infrastructure. Currently 1 Associate Professor, 2 Assistant professors and 4 Instructor Doctors take place at the department.
Profile of the Programme
Medical and Aromatic Plants Program aims to meet the technical staff needs of the relevant sector and to train the technical staff who have the technical know-how in the use of new technologies.
Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading
Students are required to take midterm exams and assignments, and final exams at the end of each semester. At least one midterm exam is given in a semester for each course. Semester/year-end exams are announced and held at the place and time determined by the school director. Besides, internship, practice, laboratory exams can be held with the decision of the College Board. In order to be able to take the semester/year-end exam of a course it is obligatory; a) To renew the registration, b) To continue to at least 70% of the theoretical course, c) To continue at least 80% of the application and laboratory of the course and to be successful. As the courses and laboratories are evaluated separately, the above conditions are also valid for laboratories. The pass grade of a course is calculated by relative evaluation method. In order to determine a student's grade in a course according to the relative evaluation method, first the raw grade is calculated by taking into consideration the contributions of the mid-term and the other educational activities, if any and the semester/year-end exams, as in the absolute evaluation method. In this method, grades are evaluated over 100 points. For all students, assessments are done over 100 grades and adapted to the letter system or 4 point grading system, which is determined by the Senate, taking into account the overall level of achievement of the class, the distribution of grades, grade average and standard deviation. In this evaluation, the contribution of the midterm exam and/or other midterm assignments to the success grade is % 60, and the grade of the final exam is 60%. A student whose CGPA is at least 2.00 is considered successful if there are not any courses with (FF), (FD), (NA) or (K) marks. Students with CGPA of under 2.00 are considered unsuccessful. Students who are unsuccessful retake courses with (DC) and (DD) marks with the recommendation of the advisor and the approval of the department chair.
Graduation Requirements
Duration of normal education is 2 years at our programme. However, the student who cannot graduate within this period must complete the education in four years according to the article 44 of the law numbered 2547. At the of this period, in order to graduate from the education institution to which they are registered, senior students are given two additional exams, one of which is a make-up, for all the courses they failed. Those who have reduced the number of failed courses to five courses at the end of these exams, have two semesters for these five courses, four semesters for students who fail up to five courses without taking additional exams; those who fail in three or less courses are given unlimited rights to take exams of the courses they have failed. In order for a student to graduate from the program he / she is attending, it is compulsory to complete all the courses required for graduation within the legal period mentioned above and complete the program with at least 2.00 Grade Point Average (GPA). Grade Point Average is also the graduation average. Students who graduated from the program with the minimum normal course load at the end of the normal education period with Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.00-3.49 are entitled to obtain Honor Certificate and the students who have a CGPA of 3.50-4.00 are entitled to obtain the High Honor Certificate.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Students who graduate from Medical and Aromatic Plants Program take the title of Technician. These technicians can work in related departments of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Forestry. They can work at aromatherapy centers and they can start their own aromatherapy business as well. They can grow and market medicinal and aromatic plants by their own means. They can work at export-import control services of customs, at drug importer of exporter companies, at Herbalists’, at aromatherapy centers, at cosmetics and perfumery factories and herbarium centers of universities. Those who successfully complete the program, can pass to the Faculty of Agriculture with a vertical transition exam.
Access to Further Studies
Transfers are achieved according to the provisions of "Regulation on the Principles of Horizontal Transfer between Associate Degree and Bachelor Degree among Higher Education Institutions", which is published by the Official Gazette No:17845. The duration of education of the students who transfer horizontally, taking into account the periods passed in the institution where the student comes from, is determined by the board of directors of the related unit so as not to exceed the maximum period determined by the law. The vertical transfers of the graduates of vocational high schools to the undergraduate programs of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University are made by the faculty board of directors in accordance with the provisions of "Regulation about proceedings of graduates of vocational schools and open education associate program students to undergraduate programs", which was published on February 19th 2002, in the official gazette no: 24676. Undergraduate transfers can be made among the Departments and Programs of the Faculties, Schools and Vocational Schools of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University. The principles regarding the transfers are regulated by the directive determined by the university senate.
